Yes, you most certainly can. However, DO NOT enter with the Visa Waiver Program (Green I-94) as you cannot change your status to a working visa.
You may apply for H-1B (but currently unavailable due to quota restrictions) or E-1/2 if you have a business you wish to start in the US.
Another option is coming to the US as a visitor, and if you find employment, just return to your country and apply for the E-3.
